Biography
Ruurd M. Van der Meulen started his career in art at the time he studied at the school of photography.
Photography is part of his passion as well as painting. Therefore in his paintings there will always be a part of the photographer himself in each of his paintings.
Ruurd was born in Leeuwarden (Friesland) and has lived in Aruba since 1991. He sees himself as a figurative artist. In the Netherlands, Ruurd received his first painting lessons from the artist Jacques Maris, great-grandson of Jan and Jacob Maris, who studied at that time at the Haagse School.
As a photographer, the artist continues to face the facts. However, there are still enough events that cannot be captured with the camera. In his paintings, where Ruurd is being inspired by art made by artists such as Pablo Picasso, he is always looking out for extremes in the creative and artistic way of design.
Part of his inspiration is found in Aruban wilderness. Also children's drawings appeal to him very much. The expression and use of bright colors have many similarities with the Cobra movement with which he often feels related too.
Ruurd works on his paintings during the day time. The material that he uses is acrylics.
